[Bookseller's Tickets for Samuel Carsley] 1) In dark blue ink on white paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of a field of dark blue ink with a thin white / reserved-out border surrounding white text. 2) In gold metallic ink on red glossy paper, the bookseller's ticket consists of a simple gold border surrounding gold text. 2. [Bookplate for Sisterhood of St. John the Divine] A bird encircled by the convent's motto with the name of the convent library written above and below. 3. [Bookplate for I. O. Körner and J. E. Horvath by K. M. S.] A central panel with the ownership text is surrounded by mantling that comes out of a vase at the bottom. Flanking the ownership panel there are two figures holding books at each side. Hanging from the mantling on the bottom are a drum and lyre, and surrounding the top are various animals. The top of the bookplate is crowned with a globe. 4. [Bookplate for Antonii Steiner and J. E. Horvath by K. M. S.] A central panel with the ownership text is surrounded by mantling that comes out of a vase at the bottom. Flanking the ownership panel there are two figures, one holding a scale and the second one holding a stack of books. Entwined in the mantling on the top there are a lyre and a globe. The top of the bookplate is crowned with a rising sun. 5. [Bookplate for Horace Bruce Smith] A framed view of a lake with trees and bushes along the edge. At the top and sides of the frame are cattails and other types of plants ; at the bottom of the frame is a collection of books, one open to a portrait-type image. 6. [Bookplate for W. H. Banfield] A picture of the bust of W.H. Banfield above green printed text. A green printed decorative border. 7. [Bookplate for Alfred P. S. Dubord] A simple border surrounds the text. In the year “1856” the six is clearly written in black ink. A dashed line separates the first two lines of text from the last line of text. 8. [Bookplate for Lieutenant Colonel E. L. Caldwell] A simple line border surrounds the text. There are small circles framing each corner. 9. [Bookplate for Edward Hilton Chaloner by Rust Craft Publishers] A thin border surrounds the text ; the top of the border is in the shape of a bookshelf with curved backing. Depicted on it are several books, with one open in the middle. A candle sits in front of the open book. At the bottom left and right corners of the border are images of the globe. The bottom line of the border contains oak leaves and acorns in the centre. The creator of the bookplate is listed as Rust Craft, Boston U. S. A. 10. [Bookplate for S. Yates Johnstone] Armorial bookplate. Silver shield with a dark red saltier ; in the top of the shield are three gold cushions on a red background. Surrounding the top of the shield is an elaborate mantling above which is a crest with a wreathe and a winged spur. Below the shield is the Latin mottoe "Nunquam non paratus" (never uprepared). 11. [Bookplate for R. W. Urwin by Diocese of Durham] At the top of this bookplate, above the text, is the arms of the bishopric of Durham. The escutcheon is azure (blue), and contains an or (gold) cross patonce. Each quadrant of the cross contains a lion rampant. On top of the shield is a bishop's mitre. As the Bishops of Durham were formerly princes of the Palatinate of Durham, this mitre has the unique distinction of also including a ducal coronet which provides for greater heraldic distinction. The bookplate is in letterpress with handwritten inserts. 12. [Bookplate for City of Halifax and Citizens’ Free Library] Black and blue ink on cream paper. A coat of arms for the city of Halifax is printed in the upper-portion of the plate in blue ink. Within this coat of arms stands a sailor on the left, with his hand placed on the crest containing a Belted Kingfisher on a grassy mound. Directly above the crest is a masoned Sable containing a sprig of mayflower. To the right is a fisherman holding a codfish by its head. Both figures and the crest are standing upon heraldic ribbon containing Latin phrasing within it. This portion is followed by the title of the library in Germanic lettering and the name of the town in cursive. 13. [Bookplate for Paul Hahn by J. M.] Black and blue ink on cream paper. The rectangular border consists of three black lines of decreasing thickness towards the center. In the top right corner is a small butterfly with outspread wings with some decoration. Below the butterfly is text in stylized, capitalized, black serif font. The bookplate owner’s name is printed below in slightly different stylized font in a larger size. Underneath the owner’s name is a larger butterfly with more elaborate outstretched wings. The text forms a single column in the left-hand side of the bookplate. To the right of the text is a bookshelf that appears to extend down to the bottom of the bookplate. Books are stacked in various ways on the shelf, spines facing out. In front of the bookshelf is a cello. The base of the cello sits in the bottom center of the bookplate and the neck extends up towards the top right-hand corner. At the top of the cello sits a butterfly, less elaborate than the others, that has been coloured in with blue ink. To the right of the cello is a tall object extending up along the bookshelf. A section of papers, potentially sheet music, in a folder in the bottom right corner. In the bottom left corner, the bookplate creator’s initials are printed in capitalized, black, serif font surrounded by a thin black border. 14. [Bookplate by William Walker Alexander] Black ink on cream paper, depicting a man holding a book and sitting beneath a large tree, with more trees in the background. 15. [Bookplate for City of Halifax and Citizens’ Free Library] Black ink on cream paper. A coat of arms for the city of Halifax is printed in the upper-portion of the plate. In the lower right corner is a handwritten note in pencil. 16. [Bookplate for J.G. Grieve by William Walker Alexander] Black ink on cream paper. Border features two parallel thin black lines on the outside with a thicker black line for the inner border. The upper-right hand corner has a microscope in profile against a sun with radiant rays. The microscope sits on a striped platform that tapers down to a point. In the upper-left hand corner is an oil lamp with a burning flame sitting on the same striped, tapered platform. In the centre of the two images is a rectangle with an indented top half. A white border surrounds black and white stripes of inconsistent length. Printed, capitalized, serif black text is printed on top. Below is a scene of a desk in a corner. There are two paintings, one on each wall. The one on the left is a nature scene and the one on the right is a landscape with a house and natural elements. On the right of the second painting is a vertical calendar for December 1963 listing Sunday the 24th to Saturday the 30th. The desk has drawers on both sides and one in the centre, all with handles. On top of the desk in the foregrounded left side is a black telephone sitting face down in the retriever. Behind the phone is a tall, thin plant in a white, hour-glass shaped pot. Next to the plant is a lamp with a short, wide, curved shade. In the centre of the back of the desk are four books, spines facing out, between two bookends. To the right of the books is a tall, thin vase with a scalloped edge holding several leafy flowers. To the right of that vase, in the right corner of the desk, is an analogue clock set in an upright square. The clock is set to approximately 4:05. Foregrounded in the right corner of the front of the desk is a book open to the title page. Across the bottom of the bookplate is a banner with curled ribbon ends. On the banner is stylized gothic font. Below the banner is a decorative row of leaves. In the bottom left hand corner is a small white patch with initials printed in black ink. Handwritten note in pencil on the verso. 17. [Bookplate for P. Gagnon] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features a beaver lying on a crest-wreath. There are maple leaf branches extending from both sides of the beaver. The beaver is surrounded by a half-circle border with the motto in black, capitalized sans-serif font written across the arc. The shield is divided per fess, with the top half being further divided per pale and the upper left hand portion is divided into three horizontal sections. The topmost left hand section is argent with sable dots charged with two fleurs-de-lis. The middle left hand section is argent with sable stripes charged with a lion passant. The bottom left hand section is argent with sable dots charged with three maple leaves connected at the stem. The upper right hand side is argent charged with two pieces of equipment, one atop the other, and a pair of scissors below. The equipment has a small curved bottom with two long, curving handles on top with a spike pointing through the lower end of the handles. Below the top half is a thin black banner with white capitalized sans-serif text. Below the banner is an image of a natural forest and coastal landscape with a ship with two tall masts in the water. On the coast, there are people, possible colonizers, interacting. A large cross has been erected on the coast on the right hand side of the image. The dexter supporter and sinister supporter are moose standing a curling ribbon with text in capitalized black sans-serif font. 18. [Bookplate for Hill’s Library] Black ink on cream paper. Handwritten notes across at the top of the bookplate in the center and right corner. Typewritten bold capital letters in serif font followed by smaller non-bold letters. The line below features bold font in sentence case. A thin black line with a thicker rectangle in the middle separates text. Text below the line is large, capital, bold font. The following line is in smaller sentence case. The next line of text is in capital, non-bold font. A thin line with two small diamonds and one large diamond in the center separate the text. Below the line is italicized capital sans serif font. Underneath that is smaller, bold sans serif font. Lending periods written on the right side of the bookplate in italicized sentence case serif font. Below that is capitalized font separated with ellipses from monetary amounts, each of which is separated by 6 dots. Text below, written in sentence case, follows the same pattern, followed by a line in sentence case serif font. Image of hand pointing an index figure to the right points to capitalized bold serif font. Below that is slightly smaller capitalized bold serif font. The following two lines of text are written in sentence case, with some use of bold letters for emphasis. Next are two lines of serif font in capital letters and a larger font size, followed by font in sentence case. The next line of text is in bold capital letters. Below that is larger, bold serif stylized font, followed by smaller non-bold capital lettering. The next five lines contain small sentence case serif font with use of bold letters for emphasis. Below that is bold, capitalized sans serif font, followed by a line that is initially non-bold, capitalized, serif font and then switches to bold, capitalized, sans serif font. The last two lines are written in non-bold sentence case serif font. All text is center-aligned. 19. [Bookplate for Joseph Jopling] Black ink on cream paper. Paper has some damage and discolouration. The crest features a forearm and hand holding onto a shell atop a crest-wreath. The shield is charged with white stars two over one. The stars have shading and have black spots on them. In the center of the shield between the stars is a black crescent moon facing to the left. In the inner curve of the moon is half a human face looking outward. Below the shield, the motto is printed on a curling ribbon in capitalized, black, serif font. 20. [Bookplate for Vancouver Medical Association] Black ink on cream paper. Text is surrounded by a simple double border.
